The?popularity of Social Networking over the last ten years has been incredible.? Over the past five years in particular, its development has meant that many businesses are now utilising sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn as a part of their marketing strategy. ??
As technology develops, the high street is becoming less and less popular for shopping and services.?? If a person needs to find a particular product, no longer do they pull on the coat and shoes they simply search on whatever the latest gadget may be. The world is at a person?s fingertips whether it is the latest mobile phone, tablet or laptop, the convenience that the internet brings is unrivalled and the first stop for many is their social media. This is why it increasingly important that every business becomes a part of online social media in order to prevent them dropping under the radar.
?I thought sites like that were for individuals not companies?
Wrong. Social media is a great, inexpensive way to promote your business to an almost limitless audience.?? Millions of people use social media every single day; with a strong online presence you can multiply your potential customer base.
?Mine is only a small business is it worth it??
No matter how big or small your business is, by building up your online presence, you increase awareness of your product.? Just think in your local area, how many people use social networking sites ? yours could be the product that they are looking for but just cannot find it and you are just around the corner!
By building an online presence, you are attracting support. If an individual sees a local business online they are likely to follow and show support. Not only are you supporting your community, they are now supporting you and with effective posts and constant presence, they may be more inclined to use your business and even recommend.
Many of the social media sites are now becoming a setting for networking events in local communities. This means that companies can come together online,? showing support for each other and discussing any issues or upcoming events that they may have ? great for small businesses to gain wider support in their locality.
?So what should I be doing when promoting my business through social media??
Creating content can be quite tricky, but once you?ve got the hang of it you?ll be flying. Obviously, promote your products, promote any events, give any company updates but be sure to keep it informal.? People don?t want to be bombarded with constant sales pitches.? Perhaps mix up your content a little; don?t be afraid to chat about completely unrelated material.? This could be anything, as long as you keep it responsible and respectful this can be very effective and increase engagement with your followers. ?Many companies can be quite intimidating for new customers, remember this when posting and make yourself approachable.
Don?t be disheartened if you aren?t getting any replies increase your presence by interacting with others. Check your news feed and comment on other posts, news stories or debates. It takes time to build a strong online presence but the more that you interact, the quicker it will grow.
Just being online is no longer as competitive as it used to be.? Social Media can increase your presence but businesses are like needles in a haystack so maintenance of online accounts and awareness of keywords in posts can help you come out on top in a search.
