A rodeo rider was released from a hospital after a bucking horse kicked him in the head during an event at Shawnee Mountain on Sunday.
Tim Kent was competing in the bareback competition, where riders try to stay on a bucking horse for 8 seconds. The rider holds onto a rawhide handle similar to a briefcase handle that's secured to the horse while it tries to throw the rider off.
Kent's handle, part of his personal equipment, was improperly adjusted and slid under the horse's belly, taking the rider with it, according to Marty Barnes, a member of the family owned business Barnes PRCA Rodeo that put on the show.
?The horse stepped on him? Barnes said. ?He must have hit him in the head at least once since he was knocked unconscious.?
Barns was in the ring as a pickup man to secure the horse after the ride was over.
Kent was life-flighted to Lehigh Valley Hospital where he was released either Sunday or Monday.
Kent is in his 20s, according to Barnes.
The accident was unusual for a rodeo. "I've seen this happen maybe twice in 30 years,? Barnes said.
