?It?s an emotional and physical defense mechanism to distort the way we see things from time to time,? says Simon Rego, Psy.D., director of psychology training at Montefiore Medical Center. ?These automatic thoughts can fill our heads without our even being aware of them or their inaccuracy.?

Not a good thing since Notre Dame researchers found that these fibs may impact your health. In a study of 110 adults, those who were told not to lie not only told the truth more often, they also reported improvements in their relationships, better sleep, less stress and sadness, and fewer headaches and sore throats.

To improve your health and your life, prove yourself wrong about these five common lies with our expert tips.

1. ?I Can?t Lose Weight?

If you just can?t seem to tip the scale in your favor, chances are your weight is a sign of a deeper issue. ?It is very difficult to be frank about what is really bothering a person, but it is fairly easy to find something to eat,? says Portland-based psychotherapist Didi Zahariades. ?You can lie to yourself and say, ?I?m hungry,? when in fact you are stuffing your feelings with immediate gratification and a moment of forgetting about your problems.?

Honestly evaluate how well you?ve been following your diet and fitness plans. Have you been a bit generous with portions lately? Skipping your Tuesday morning bootcamp because you ?don?t feel like it?? If so, you know what changes you need to make to start seeing your weight go back down. The key here is patience. ?No one puts on 40 pounds in 30 days, but when it comes to shedding those pounds, we expect it to happen quickly,? Zahariades says. Accept that it may be a long journey but one well worth the time and effort, and consider seeing a therapist to help you address any underlying problems that you?re trying to solve (or ignore) by eating.

We've heard how Windows Phone 8 is all about you, and seen all the devices bearing the new OS at launch. What's left, however, is where you can get one on the other side of the pond and, more importantly, how much it's going to cost you. Nokia has separately announced that both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be launching in the UK (and France) later this week. More specifically, though, it looks like every UK carrier will be getting at least three handsets, with the almost-ready-to-launch EE getting both of HTC and Nokia's handset pairs. Military Press

Stand on the center of the band with your feet together or slightly apart (the farther apart they are the more resistance you?ll experience).
Make sure your back is straight and you have a small bend in the knees.
Grab the handles of the band with your palms facing forward and start with your elbows at shoulder height or slightly lower.
Slowly extend your arms upward over your head so your upper arm is next to your ear and then back down. Always maintain at least a slight bend in your elbows.
Repeat 10-20 times and do 3-5 sets (beginners do 1-2 sets).

Lateral Deltoid Raise

Stand on the center of the band with your feet together or slightly apart (the farther apart they are the more resistance you?ll experience).
Grab the left handle of the band with your right hand and the right handle of the band with your left hand so the band crosses just above your feet. Keep your arms at your side and palms down.
Slowly raise your arms sideways and outward at shoulder height. There should be a slight bend in your knees and elbows.
Repeat 10-20 times and do 3-5 sets (beginners do 1-2 sets).

Front Deltoid Raise
Stand on the center of the band with your feet together or slightly apart (the farther apart they are the more resistance you?ll experience).
Grab the handles of the band with your hands in front of you and your palms facing your thighs.
Slowly raise your arms forward to shoulder height, keeping them straight.
Repeat 10-20 times and do 3-5 sets (beginners do 1-2 sets).

Upright Row
Stand on the center of the band with your feet together or slightly apart (the farther apart they are the more resistance you?ll experience).
Grab the handles of the band with your hands in front of you and your palms facing your thighs and stand with a slight bend in your knees.
Slowly raise your elbows to shoulder height, keeping your hands infront of you and your palms facing your body.
Repeat 10-20 times and do 3-5 sets (beginners do 1-2 sets).

Shoulder Shrugs
Stand on the center of the band with your feet together or apart (the farther apart they are the more resistance you?ll experience).
Stand upright with a slight bend in your knees and grab the band at the handles or further down for more resistance.
Place your arms and hands at your side.
Slowly shrug (lift) your shoulders toward your ear and then back down.
Repeat 10-20 times and do 3-5 sets (beginners do 1-2 sets).

Boxing
Stand with one foot forward on the center of the band.
Grab the handles of the band and put your hands in a boxer?s position.
Begin throwing punches with your palms facing down throwing jab/cross (left/right) combinations in succession.
Do not fully extend your arms and always maintain a bend in your elbows.
Do 10-20 combinations (jab/cross) for 3-5 sets (beginners do 1-2 sets).

SITTWE, Myanmar - A human rights group expressed concern for the safety of thousands of Muslims on Saturday after revealing satellite images of a once-thriving coastal community reduced to ashes during a week of violence in western Myanmar.

The images released by the New York-based Human Rights Watch show "near total destruction" of a predominantly Rohingya Muslim part of Kyaukpyu, one of several areas in Rakhine state where battles between Rohingyas and ethnic Rakhine Buddhists threaten to derail the former Burma's fragile democratic transition.

More than 811 buildings and houseboats were razed in Kyaukpyu on Oct. 24, forcing many Rohingya to flee north by sea toward the state capital Sittwe, Human Rights Watch said.

"Burma's [Myanmar?s] government urgently needs to provide security for the Rohingya in Arakan (Rakhine) State, who are under vicious attack," Phil Robertson, the group's deputy Asia director, said.

There were widespread unconfirmed reports of boatloads of Rohingyas trying to cross the sea border to neighboring Bangladesh, which has denied them refugee status since 1992.

No food, no water
Rohingyas in dozens of packed boats with no food or water that have fled Kyaukpyu -- an industrial zone important to China -- and other recent hotspots were seeking access on Friday to overcrowded refugee camps around the state capital Sittwe, according to four Rohingya refugee sources.

Some boats were blocked by security forces from reaching the shore and few Rohingyas managed to reach the camps, the sources said by telephone.

A crew from Britain's Channel 4 News gains access to resettlement camps set-up for around 60,000 members of the Muslim minority group months after deadly clashes with local Buddhists forced them from their homes.

Wan-lark foundation, an organization that has been assisting Rakhine Buddhist refugees, said no clashes in the state had been reported to them since Friday night, but dead bodies of Rakhines had been found.

"Around 6pm last night in Kyawtyaw, the bodies of 16 Rakhines were found in the sea. They had died during the attacks on Thursday. We're looking for more bodies," representative Tun Mein Thein said on Saturday.

The chaos suggests the reformist government is struggling to contain historic ethnic and religious tensions suppressed during nearly a half century of military rule that ended last year.

Myanmar government ends direct media censorship

A Rakhine government spokesman put the death toll at 112 as of Friday. But within hours state media revised it to 67 killed from Oct. 21 to 25, with 95 wounded and nearly 3,000 houses destroyed.

The death toll could be far higher, said Human Rights Watch, citing "allegations from witnesses fleeing scenes of carnage and the government's well-documented history of underestimating figures that might lead to criticism of the state."

The clashes come just five months after communal unrest killed more than 80 people and displaced at least 75,000 in the same region.

'Ethnic cleansing'
A boat carrying 120 Muslims from Kyaukpyu was intercepted by Rakhines, who killed the men and raped the women, the advocacy group Burmese Rohingya Organisation U.K. claimed in a statement. This report could not be verified, Reuters said.

"Ethnic cleansing is happening under the noses of the international community and they are doing nothing," said Tun Khin, the group's president. "We have confirmed reports that hundreds of people have been killed and the government must be aware of that."

Kyaukpyu is crucial to China's most strategic investment in Myanmar: Twin pipelines that will carry oil and natural gas through the town on the Bay of Bengal to China's energy-hungry western provinces.

The United Nations has warned that Myanmar's fledgling democracy could be "irreparably damaged" by the violence.

Rohingyas are officially stateless. Buddhist-majority Myanmar's government regards the estimated 800,000 Rohingyas in the country as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, and not as one of the country's 135 official ethnic groups, and denies them citizenship.

But many of those expelled from Kyaukpyu are not Rohingya but Muslims from the officially recognized Kaman minority, said Chris Lewa, director of the Rohingya advocacy group, Arakan Project. "It's not just anti-Rohingya violence anymore, it's anti-Muslim," she said.

It was unclear what set off the latest arson and killing that started on Sunday. In June, tension flared after the rape and murder of a Buddhist woman that was blamed on Muslims, but there was no obvious spark this time.

Rights groups such as Amnesty International have called on Myanmar to amend or repeal a 1982 citizenship law to end the Rohingyas' stateless condition.

Romney cancels Virginia events ahead of Hurricane Sandy

PENSACOLA, Fla.?Mitt Romney is canceling campaign events on Sunday in Virginia as a "precautionary move" as the East Coast braces for Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to make landfall late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

Instead, the GOP nominee will travel from Florida, where he's campaigning Saturday, to Ohio on Sunday morning, where he will join a bus tour featuring his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan.

Rick Gorka, a spokesman for Romney, told reporters traveling with the GOP nominee that the campaign didn't want to "divert" resources away from storm preparation.

On Friday, the Romney campaign canceled a Sunday night rally in Virginia Beach. Today, they added Romney's two other events?rallies in Haymarket and Richmond?to the cancellation list.

The campaign said the events would be rescheduled.

One of the most common questions that I am asked on a daily basis from new investors is whether or not it is beneficial for them to get their real estate license. I spent many years as a real estate investor wholesaling, rehabbing, fixing, flipping and renting without getting a license. Ultimately I decided that it was beneficial to get my license and that having a license does not hinder your ability to operate as an investor.

If you are thinking about whether or not you should get your license then here are some points for you to consider:

• Why are you thinking about getting your license?
• Are you required to get a license?
• How will having a license benefit or hinder your ability to operate as an investor?

The first question you should ask yourself is why you are thinking about getting a license. If the answer is because you want to be an agent and show properties to buyers and sellers in exchange for a commission then obviously you need a real estate license. However for most investors that are interested in investing for themselves the lines become much more blurry.

The second question for you to ask yourself is if you are required to get a license? Many investors are not aware of when and if they need a license and often assume that they don't when they do. If you are a full time wholesaler and you assign contracts to other investors for an assignment fee or you double close your own transactions for a profit then you probably do not need to get a license. However you must have beneficial interest in the property meaning that you must have a valid contract indicating that you are the buyer of that specific property and that you have equitable interest in it. If you do not have beneficial interest then this means that you cannot find buyers for other wholesalers.

If you are an active wholesaler with an active buyers list then you probably network with other active wholesalers in your area. If you do then invariably you will find yourself in a position where you know buyers that are looking for a house in a certain area and one of your wholesaling associates might have a house under contract in that area. In this scenario you would be stepping over the line since you do not have an interest in that particular property and you are marketing it. This would require you to be licensed. Keep in mind that this applies regardless of whether or not your associate gave you permission to find a buyer for their deal. Do not rely on joint venture agreements or beneficial Interest agreements to help you to get around this regulation. The local real estate licensing authorities might ask you for proof of your beneficial interest and they will be looking for your name on either the deed or the contract. So in summary if you are marketing your own deals you don't need a license but if you are marketing other people's deals then you do. If you do not have a real estate license then you cannot find buyers for other investors. You also cannot help other investors sell their properties. or a property for someone else (with a few exceptions).

The final question that you should ask yourself is how having a license will hinder or benefit you as an investor. If you only wholesale your own deals, manage your own properties or fix and flip your own properties then you do not need a license. However, the more active you get as an investor the more opportunities there will be for you to benefit from having a license. You will be able to list properties, manage properties for others, wholesale other investor's deals, find sellers for other investors, find buyers for other investors, save money on purchases and sales and get access to the MLS. In short there are a lot of benefits to having your real estate license.

What are the negatives to having your license? I don't really see any. You will have to disclose that you have a license and you will be bound to act ethically (which you should already be doing). Having a license will give you more opportunities to make money and if you are considering being a full time real estate investor then having a license will benefit you in the long run.

Sonnen, a former NCAA Division I Wrestling All-American from the University of Oregon, is familiar with Alberto?s amateur wrestling and MMA accomplishments. He would have also competed in the 2000 Olympic Games if Mexico hadn?t been forced to forego a wrestling team due to lack of funding. ?The armbar is very basic,? Sonnen said. ?Anything that really works at high level competition is basic. It is really hard to stop somebody who is using their full body against your one joint. An armbar is one fighter using his arms, legs and hips to apply pressure on an elbow.?An armbar can be applied quickly and effectively from almost any position. I tapped out to an armbar quickly twice yesterday in training. There is a point of no return with an armbar where there is only one centimeter more before the elbow breaks. You can tap out or spend six months recovering from surgery.

?The very first time I saw an armbar, it was demonstrated by 1984 Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Gold Medalist Mark Schultz,? Sonnen added. Mark and his brother Dave are the only siblings to both win Olympic Gold Medals and World Freestyle Wrestling Championships, the latter of which when they defeated the Soviet Union?s grapplers who boycotted the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles during the Cold War.

?To make a point, Mark put a two-by-four between his legs and instantly snapped it,? Sonnen said. ?The point that he was making was how effective the armbar is. When you trap anything between your arms and legs and elevate your hips, you will break it. Besides being so basic and so effective, it can be applied quickly from almost any position.?

So while The Viper can strike at any time and any place with the RKO, the same can be said for the application of Alberto?s Cross Armbreaker. Analysts are projecting profit to rise by 2.4% versus last year to 82 cents.

Last quarter, the company came in at net income of 41 cents per share against a mean estimate of profit of 22 cents per share, beating estimates after missing them in the previous quarter. In the first quarter, it missed forecasts by 11 cents.

Stock Price Performance: Between July 31, 2012 and October 24, 2012, the stock price rose $2.02 (23.1%), from $8.76 to $10.78. It saw one of its worst periods between November 15, 2011 and November 25, 2011 when shares fell for eight straight days, dropping 14.6% (-$1.28) over that span.

Wall St. Revenue Expectations: On average, analysts predict $1.25 billion in revenue this quarter, a rise of 3.3% from the year-ago quarter. Analysts are forecasting total revenue of $5.11 billion for the year, a rise of 5.4% from last year?s revenue of $4.85 billion.

Key Stats:

On the top line, the company is looking to build on four-straight revenue increases heading into this earnings announcement. Revenue rose 18.1% in the third quarter of the last fiscal year, 16.2% in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year and 6.9% in the first quarter before increasing again in the second quarter.

There has enjoyed solid performance recently heading into this earnings announcement with profit rising by a year-over-year average of more than twofold for the last four quarters.

Analyst Ratings: There are mostly holds on the stock with 14 of 20 analysts surveyed giving that rating.

Balance Sheet Analysis: The company?s current ratio of assets to liabilities came in at 3.9 last quarter. Having a ratio above 2:1 is usually considered a good indicator of a company?s liquidity and ability to meet creditor demands.

Apple unveils long-rumored iPad Mini starting at $329

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Apple Inc.'s pencil-thin, smaller iPad will cost much more than its competitors, signaling that the company isn't going to get into a mini-tablet price war.

The company unveiled the iPad Mini on Tuesday, with a screen about two-thirds the size of the full model, and half the weight. Customers can begin ordering the new model on Friday. In a surprise, Apple also revamped its flagship, full-sized iPad just six months after the launch of the latest model.

Apple's late founder Steve Jobs once ridiculed a small tablet from a competitor as a "tweener" that was too big and too small to compete with either smartphones or tablets. Now Apple's own Mini enters a growing small-tablet market dominated by Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle Fire.

Apple is charging $329 and up for the Mini - a price that fits into the Apple product lineup between the latest iPod Touch ($299) and the iPad 2 ($399). Company watchers had been expecting Apple to price the iPad Mini at $250 to $300 to compete with the Kindle Fire, which starts at $159. Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook HD and Google Inc.'s Nexus 7 both start at $199.

"Apple had an opportunity to step on the throat of Amazon and Google, yet decided to rely on its brand and focus on (profit) margin," said Bill Kreher, an analyst with brokerage Edward Jones.

Apple shares fell $20.67, or 3.3 percent, to close at $613.36 after the price was announced. Shares of Barnes & Noble jumped 88 cents, or 6.1 percent, to $15.32. Shares of Amazon rose 53 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $234.31.

Apple has sold more than 100 million iPads since their debut in April 2010. Analysts expect Apple to sell 5 million to 10 million iPad Minis before the year is out.

Apple starts taking orders for the new model on Friday. The iPad Mini will be competing for the attention of gadget shoppers with the release that same day of computers and tablets running Windows 8, Microsoft's new operating system.

Wi-Fi-only models will ship on Nov. 2. Later, the company will add models capable of accessing cellular, LTE data networks.

The screen of the iPad Mini is 7.9 inches on the diagonal, making it larger than the 7-inch screens of the competitors. It also sports two cameras, on the front and on the back, which the competitors don't.

The iPad Mini is as thin as a pencil and weighs 0.68 pounds, half as much as the full-size iPad with its 9.7-inch screen.

The screen resolution is 1024 by 768 pixels, the same as the iPad 2 and a quarter of the resolution of the flagship iPad, which starts at $499.

The new model has better apps and is easier to use than competitors such as Google's Nexus, said Avi Greengart, a consumer electronics analyst with Current Analysis.

"This really is not in the same category as some of the other 7-inch tablets," he said. "And that's before you consider that it has a premium design - it's made of metal that's extremely lightweight."

Jobs attacked the whole idea of smaller tablets in his last appearance on a conference call with analysts in October 2010.

"The reason we wouldn't make a 7-inch tablet isn't because we don't want to hit a price point. It's because we don't think you can make a great tablet with a 7-inch screen," Jobs said. "The 7-inch tablets are tweeners, too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with an iPad."

Job's chief objection was that a smaller screen would make it hard to hit buttons on the screen with the fingers - never mind that Apple's iPhone, with an even smaller screen, was already a hit at the time.

Apple senior vice president Eddy Cue started working on changing Jobs' mind. In an email sent to other Apple managers in January 2011, Cue said the CEO had started warming to the idea of a smaller tablet. The email surfaced as part of Apple's patent trial against Samsung Electronics Co. this year. Jobs died last October.

Company watchers have been expecting the iPad Mini for a year and most of the details, except the price, had leaked out.

Apple also said it's upgrading its full-size iPad, doubling the speed of the processor. Previously, the company has updated the iPad once a year.

The fourth-generation iPad will have a better camera and work on more LTE wireless data networks around the world. Apple is also replacing the 30-pin dock connector with the new, smaller Lightning connector introduced with the iPhone 5 a month ago.

The price of the new full-size model stays the same as the previous version, starting at $499 for a Wi-Fi-only version with 16 gigabytes of memory.

Apple also introduced a 13-inch MacBook Pro laptop with a Retina display sporting four times the resolution of the older model.

The new model, which follows a 15-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display introduced in June, goes on sale Tuesday for $1,699.

The old MacBook Pro will still be sold, starting at $1,199.

The new model dispenses with an optical disc drive and a traditional hard drive. Instead, it uses solid-state flash memory. This makes it 20 percent thinner and at 3.75 pounds, nearly a pound lighter than the previous model.

Apple also eliminated the optical drive from its new iMac desktop computer, helping slim the edges down to 5 millimeters, one-fifth the thickness of the old model. That makes the edges thinner than most stand-alone computer monitors. It bulges in middle of the back, however.

An iMac model with a 21.5-inch screen will start shipping in November for $1,299 and up. A 27-inch version will start at $1,799.

Commodity Market Update - 23.10.12

Energy: Crude oil has competed a 61.8% Fibonacci retracement losing almost 2.5% today trading under $86/barrel for the first time since mid July. I advised clients to book profits on their bearish trades and I will be looking to re-establish shorts in further out contracts in the coming sessions. I think we could see an additional 4-6% decline after a slight bounce. RBOB traded lower again today making it 9 consecutive sessions trading under its 100 day MA for the first time since late July. Next support in December is seen just above $2.50. Do not rule out a bounce after the near 30 cent loss in the last 2 weeks. With the 1.19% loss in heating oil today prices are only pennies away from a trade under $3/gallon. More downside is expected as the 100 day MA is 7 cents under today?s settlement. For hedgers looking to lock in prices before the anticipated winter appreciation I am looking at buying for some clients 15-20 cents lower. Natural gas gained 2.3% on an inside day. The 18 day MA supported the last 2 sessions but I still think lower trade is likely. My favored play is short futures while simultaneously selling out of the money puts 1:1.

Stock Indices: The S&P gave up 1.63% closing at 6 week lows. A correction is under way and I have a target of 1380 in December futures. The Dow failed to hold onto its 50 day MA which supported yesterday closing lower by 1.89%. Only another 75 point loss to complete a 38.2% retracement though I think we could see a 50% move putting December futures at 12750.

Metals: Gold lost just better than 1% getting within $5 of $1700/ounce. On a trade near $1665-1680 I would be booking profits on bearish trades and starting to price out bullish positions into next year?stay tuned. Silver closed lower by 1.77% closing near its lows under $32/ounce. The 100 day MA comes in at $30.25 and though we may not get that low I do think we can get pretty close which means stay the course on shorts for now.

Softs: Inside day in cocoa as 2500 has served as resistance the last few days. As long as prices in December remain above 2450 stay long but put stops just under that level. March sugar lost 2.04% but futures have yet o make new lows. Continue to scale into long plays with stops just under the August lows. Assuming a fresh long entry at current prices that equates to about $300-350 of risk per contract.? Cotton lost nearly 3.5% today?note I advised long entries to exit yesterday. On a slight rally in the coming days aggressive traders can look to fade that move thinking we see a trade under 70 cents in the coming weeks. Coffee lost 2.22% but I feel we could get a bounce that would set up a bearish trade from higher levels. If we break down from here I?ll likely miss the trade with clients.

Treasuries:? 30-yr bonds traded above their 9 day MA for the first time this week closing just below that pivot point. I see higher trade and open the opportunity to be a seller near 150?00 in December. 10-yr notes appear to be establishing a base just above 132?00 and from my perspective should trade higher. A close above 133?00 and a sale would be back on my radar.

Livestock:?? Live cattle have lost ground the last 3 sessions trading under its 9 day MA today. Traders can gain slight bearish exposure targeting a trade under $1.25 in December. January feeder cattle closed under their short term MAs as my bias is bearish here as well. I don?t really care for the risk to reward dynamic but I do expect a challenge of $1.46 in the coming sessions?trade accordingly. Today?s chart of the day offers a viable trading opportunity in my opinion; bearish exposure in lean hogs.? A close under the 9 day MA and reversal from overbought levels yesterday sets up a trade that I think could put prices of December futures back under 75 cents. My favored play is short futures while also selling out of the money puts 1:1 as a hedge.

Grains: Corn lost 0.70% as the 50 day MA capped any upside once again. Aggressive traders can gain bearish exposure with stops just above that pivot point; in December at $7.65. Four out of the last five sessions soybeans have gained with prices higher by just better than 60 cents. I do not expect much upside but a trade over $15.60 in November should add another 50 cents/bushel. Wheat cannot get out of its own way. Prices broke down today and recent longs should have been stopped at a slight loss. Remain on the sidelines until we get a clearer picture.

Currencies:? Impressive move in the dollar today as I did a featured piece on how trade in the greenback affects other currencies and commodities. A settlement over the 34 EMA which is likely should be a game changer and lead to further appreciation. My favored sales against the dollar remain the Pound and Loonie. My targets on December futures are as follow 1.5800 and .9925. Tighten stops on Yen shorts as we could get a bounce after the 4 cent decline in recent weeks. Do not allow the market to take back too much.
